The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Director: Gabriele Muccino
Writer: Steve Conrad
Stars: Will Smith, Thandie Newton, Jaden Smith

A salesman struggles through a separation with his wife, trying to provide a life for him and his son, and homelessness, while competing for a job as an unpaid intern. Based on the true story of Chris Gardner (who has a cameo at the end of the movie).

While the movie has taken a lot of flack for Will Smith’s apparent attempt to use it as a vehicle to get his son Jaden Smith into acting, it is a worthwhile movie. And as child actors go, Jaden did a pretty good job. It is a heartfelt film showing what a man will do to keep and provide for his son. And a reminder that happiness is not a guarantee, or given, it is pursued.
