Cocktail (1988)

Director: Roger Donaldson
Writer: Heywood Gould
Stars: Tom Cruise, Bryan Brown, Elisabeth Shue

Young man strikes out to make his fortune in NYC and becomes a bartender, and screws it all up. Moves to Jamaica to be a bartender, finds love, and screws it all up. Moves back to NYC, and eventually stops screwing up.

Pretty solid movie, showcasing a young Tom Cruise’s talents. He does dumbass rather well. And I’m always a sucker for Elizabeth Shue. As with many movies in the 80’s, it has a pretty good soundtrack.
